Influence of Rock Structure on Migration of Radioactive Colloids from an Underground Repository of High-Level Radioactive Waste

Studies of leaching vitrified simulated high-level radioactive waste (HLW) evidence that most actinides or their simulators enter water in a colloidal form. In this paper, we consider mechanism colloid-facilitated migration radionuclides from an underground repository HLW located at depth few hundreds meters fractured crystalline rocks. The comparison between data field and laboratory measurements showed the bulk permeability rock massif tests is much greater than samples experiments due to influence network fractures massif. Our theoretical analysis presents difference can take place even case when not continuous, are isolated with each other through porous low-permeable matrix rock. Results modelling revealed possibility mechanical retention radionuclide-bearing colloid particles frame during migration.
